[#RiGoesOutside] Montreal!

So if you didn't know I took a little impromptu trip to Montreal, Quebec with my family over the Easter weekend. Here are some of my photos and my chronicling of my experience of my time in Montreal!

It was supposed to be a nice week, considering that it was quite warm during the week before the weekend. But it snowed. A lot. I definitely wasn't prepared for this weather as I had on running shoes. I'm glad I wore a down jacket instead of my beloved black wool and leather coat.

So instead of walking around and shopping, we decided to go visit the Saint Joseph's Oratory to see the interiors. Montreal is probably the oldest area of Canada, since it's right next to the St. Lawrence river, where settlers sailed into the mainland of Canada. So there's a lot of old buildings in Montreal and it has a much more European feel than the rest of Canada. Also, if you're into that sort of thing, the relic in Saint Joseph's Oratory is the heart of Saint Brother Andre.

The inside was beautiful, but there wasn't as much to see as there is in European churches. A lot of it was closed up and there were escalators inside, so it's obviously been modernized. Still, the size of the top bit was pretty awesome.

That night, we went to a restaurant that is co-owned by Jamie Oliver and the head chef, Derek Dammann. It's a super casual pub like restaurant and the food is freaking awesome. It's a sort of "share the plate" type deal and there's no set menu so it's always changing. It's on the pricier side but the food is sooooo good.

Here are some of the dishes I had at Maison Publique before I got too distracted eating and it got too dark to take pictures with my phone. Not included in these photos is a delicious papparedelle with venison ragu and a big slice of ham and vegetables (it is Easter). We were all super stuffed and content afterwards that we didn't even have dessert.

We didn't do much on the second day besides some shopping. I got a new bag and some Rhodia paper and Stabilo pens. Because of course Montreal has a chain of fountain pen stores and Toronto wouldn't. (WHY AREN'T THERE MORE IN TORONTO) I should have picked up some ink while I was there. Yes, if you didn't know, I'm super into fountain pens lately.

We ended our last evening in Montreal with dinner in a super cute bistro where I had sub par salmon in an attempt to be healthy after the previous night's meal. That and I had an awesome smoked meat sandwich and cheesecake at lunch. From our hotel we had a great view of the skyline and a view of the city down below. I couldn't resist taking pictures while everyone else was asleep.

So that's my short little trip to Montreal! It was really nice considering the Easter weekend was right before finals started. (I was actually writing my mythology essay in the car while we were driving to Montreal) So it was pretty relaxing and it was nice to get away from everything for a little bit.

I hope you enjoyed this post! I really love doing these #RiGoesOutside posts and I hope to do more in the future. :D

    1. Thanks! I did have a great time! It was pretty awkward stomping through the inch of snow in running shoes though. Haha.
